Ultraman Anime Streams Opening Sequence of Season 2

The sequel premieres next Thursday, so the series has now revealed a clip of things to come. Netflix and Tsuburaya Productions have posted the opening animation sequence for the second anime season based on Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi‘s Ultraman manga.

The new season’s first episode will get an advanced screening at the “Ultraman World Premiere and Orchestra Concert” event on April 10. The anime will debut on Netflix worldwide on April 14.

The opening sequence shows off Season 2’s Six Ultra Brothers as they take on some kaiju. It introduces several of the show’s new characters, including the mysterious new alien Maya, and the series’ newly expanded roster of galactic protectors, which sees Season 1’s Ultraman, Ultraman Seven, and Ultraman Taro joined by three new heroes: Ultraman Zoffy, Ultraman Jack, and Ultraman Ace.

About the Manga and Anime

This CG-animated series is based on a 2011 manga written by Eiichi Shimizu and drawn by Tomohiro Shimoguchi. The series tells the story of Shinjiro Hayata, the son of original Ultraman protagonist Shin Hayata, and serves as a direct sequel to the classic 1966 live-action series.

The six Ultramen have to combine their powers to solve the mystery surrounding a mass disappearance on Earth and protect the planet from an alien force known as Dark Star. The first anime season premiered globally on Netflix in April 2019 and has 13 episodes. The series then premiered on Japanese television in April 2020.

Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
