The official website for Warner Bros. Japan’s live-action adaptation of Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga has unveiled a teaser trailer. Two new teaser visuals were also rolled out for the upcoming movie.
After Warner Bros. Japan announced the making of the live-action film in February 2020, fans were left out of the loop as information about the production was not forthcoming. The Tokyo Revengers live-action movie was, originally, to open in Japan on October 9 last year but was delayed to 2021 due to the spread of COVID-19 in Japan.
An initial trailer showing the cast in action has finally been revealed for the upcoming movie.
Fans are always sceptical about live-action movies but they needn’t fear because the trailer for Tokyo Revengers looks stunning. The attention to detail is brilliant as the movie seeks to retain the punkish hairstyle and aggressive passion of the manga.
What is the Manga About, Again?
Ken Wakiu launched the manga in Kodansha‘s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017 and Kodansha published the manga’s 18th compiled book volume on July 17.
Tokyo Revengers focuses on Takemichi Hanagaki, who goes back 12 years in the past and tries to save his girlfriend from being killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang.
Who is Part of the Production Team?
The live-action adaptation will be directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa (live-action Kakegurui, Miseinen dakedo Kodomo ja Nai, Keep your hands off Eizouken). Popular voice actor, Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba), narrates the teaser trailer.
Hiro Shimono has this to say:
“I’ve been reading the original manga for a long time, and I love it, so I was really happy to have this opportunity! I’ve only seen this trailer, but Takemichi and the rest of the cast fit the characters from the manga very well, and the atmosphere and the amount of the heat of the visuals have made my expectations soar!”
