The Prince of Tennis Gets U-17 World Cup Anime

The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 WORLD CUP anime has been announced for 2022.

It will become the first The Prince of Tennis II TV anime since 2012 and is set to take place after the events of the 2014 OVA The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs Genius10. The announcement was made at the 20th-anniversary event for The Prince of Tennis anime franchise.


The Prince of Tennis manga series by Takeshi Konomi began in 1999, while the sequel The Prince of Tennis II (The New Prince of Tennis in Japan) began in 2009 and is still ongoing with 34 tankōbon volumes as of September 2021. The manga series has inspired several anime series, OVAs, and movies.

Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama U-17 World Cup (The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup) will premiere next year. The event presented a teaser visual featuring the main lead Ryōma Echizen alongside Kunimitsu Tezuka and Hōō Byōdōin with the tagline, “To a world as yet unseen…”


Cast and staff have been unveiled and fans are really in for a treat.

Amongst the staff is Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU, Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu) as director, Akiharu Ishii (Noblesse) as character designer and chief animation director, Mitsutaka Hirota (EDENS ZERO) as series composer, Yūko Tsumori (2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team) as color designer, Studio ARA’s Akira Itō (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as art director, Yūta Nakamura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax!) as photography director, and Chihiro Tamaki (Ongaku Shoujo) as music composer.

Studio KAI and M.S.C are the animation production studios for this anime.
