Silent Hill creator, Keiichiro Toyama, is reportedly returning to the horror genre with a brand new game made by his newly founded studio, Bokeh Game Studio. The studio released a nine-minute video on their YouTube channel titled “Focus” in which Toyama talks about the creative process along with some concept art for the new game.
The artwork shows strange and disturbing images of eldritch monsters like something you’d see in a Silent Hill game or some weird esoteric horror movie.
The Creative Process
In the video, Toyama goes into detail about his views on this new game and shares his aspirations on what it means to be a game developer/director. Regarding this game, Toyama says, “The view I have of horror is the everyday life being shaken” and he enjoys stories with a “death game” concept where you have regular people thrown into “irrational situations”.

Per the video, it appears the game’s setting will play a big role. In the game, one will explore how the characters got themselves in that situation, their emotional state, and how they deal with it all.
Before he founded his own studio, Toyama worked at Sony Computer Entertainment where he was the director and creator for two series of games, Siren and Gravity Rush.
The Siren series revolves around a group of characters thrown into a dangerous and horrifying situation that they all try their best to survive. Gravity Rush, on the other hand, is an action game where players control Kat who can manipulate gravity and uses her powers to protect people from mysterious monsters known as the Nevi.
Toyama left Sony Computer Entertainment in 2020 and started his new studio to focus on his original IPs. In the latest video, he says, “I thought that it was a necessity to have my own studio.”
The Silent Hill franchise has been in a rough patch for many years, mainly because the series has remained dormant despite fan demand. Most famously, Konami released PT, the acclaimed demo for the next entry- Silent Hills- which was to be directed by the famed developer, Hideo Kojima.
For still unknown reasons, Konami fired Kojima and canceled Silent Hills. Since then, there have been no new games and virtually no news about another Silent Hills game, until very recently.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, Polish game studio, Bloober Team, said it’s working on “another horror IP [with a] very famous publisher” but they can’t say who it is yet.
Rumors have been circulating since March 2020 that a new Silent Hills reboot was in development. Recent information states that Konami outsourced a Silent Hills game to a yet unnamed Japanese developer.

Fans theorize that multiple Silent Hills games are in development.
As for me, I’m not holding my breath. Konami has shown, for years, that they are not interested in developing a Silent Hills game. If it turns out I’m wrong, I will gladly admit my mistake and be overjoyed at the news.
Toyama has always delivered on his promises and hasn’t disappointed yet. After watching that video and seeing the concept art, I’m definitely looking forward to the trailer.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you think of Toyama’s new game? Will Konami make a new Silent Hills game?
