With the North American release just around the corner, fans of the beloved new-gen shounen anime series have a lot of things to be excited for as it has been confirmed that the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will be arriving in 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen was one of the biggest anime of 2021 and would eventually come away with Crunchyroll’s coveted Anime of the Year award following its conclusion in March of last year.

Panel Announcement

During a stage event today celebrating the success of the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (via Crunchyroll), it was confirmed that season two of the anime series is in production and slated to broadcast in 2023. The panel for the big announcement was comprised of several voice actors from both the movie and TV series, including Junya Enokiand Megumi Ogata, who plays the series star Yuji Itadori, and film star Yuta Okkotsu, respectively.

Whilst fans are understandably over the moon with this announcement, not many members of the community would have been too surprised at the series’ return to television. Not only did Jujutsu Kaisen season 1 end with a “To be continued” tagline, but the series is easily popular enough to warrant a renewal and there is plenty of source material left to adapt.

The panel also housed Kana Hanizawa who plays Yuta’s friend, Rika Orimoto, Yuichi Nakamura, and the voice of both series and film star Satoru Gojo. Takahiro Sakurai, who voices Suguru Geto, also confirmed that Mappa will be returning to animate the second season.

Jujutsu Kaisen manga writer and illustrator Gege Akutami released a brand-new piece of artwork of Yuta Okkotsu (below) to celebrate the announcement of the series’ second season.

No Specific Date Confirmed, Yet

As confirmed in the announcement made at the recent event in Japan, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will release in 2023. Initial reports of the renewal stated that the hit anime series would premiere in “Winter 2023”, i.e. the broadcasting slate that runs from January 2023 until March.

However, the Weekly Shonen Jump News Twitter page has now shared an update to this information, confirming that only a 2023 window was set and that ‘Winter’ was mistranslated from the original post.
