Himawari – Kenichi Legend Live-Action Sequel Unveils Cast and Debut

The staff of Himawari – Miyazaki Legend, the live-action television series of Akiko Higashimura‘s Himawari – Kenichi Legend comedy manga, has revealed four additional cast members. A mid-May premiere date has also been announced.

The sequel series will have 10 episodes, each 15 minutes long.

TV Miyazaki premiered the first live-action television series in June 2020 to celebrate the station’s 50th anniversary.

Cast and Staff Lists

Sōichi Ishii is directing the series, and Tetsuhiro Ikeda is writing the script. Miyazaki TV and HoriPro are credited for production. The series will star:

  • Katsunori Takahashi as Kenichi Hayashi
  • Yuna Taira as Akiko Hayashi
  • Yūki Inoue as Kenichi Koorogi
  • Masanori Ishii as Kuroki
  • Mai Ooshima as Kurumi Ebihara
  • Mayumi Satō as Deputy Director Saruwatari.

Yoichi Nukumizu joins the cast as a driver.

The new cast members are:

  • Yui Asaka as Noriko Hayashi, Akiko’s mother
  • Yо̄ichi Nukumizu as himself
  • Yuri Ebihara as herself
  • Nagano as himself


More on the Manga

Tokyo Tarareba Girls won last year’s Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia award in the 2019 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The manga ran in Kodansha‘s Morning magazine from 2006 to 2010, and Kodansha published 13 compiled book volumes for the series.

The manga centers on the office antics of Akiko and her father Kenichi, who both work for the same telephone service company in southern Kyushu. The original manga’s story is set in Higashimura’s native Miyazaki Prefecture.
