At the time of this writing, E3 Online is only three weeks away. The massive gaming event is set to start on Saturday, June 12, and go on until Tuesday, June 15, with many big-name game developers set to show off their future titles. Fans are anxiously waiting and pondering over what they’ll see.
With so much going on, rumors and leaks were bound to come out and they have. Let’s take a look at some of the more noteworthy rumors that have come out recently.
Final Fantasy Origin
No, I don’t mean “Origins” as in the remake of Final Fantasy I and II that was released on the first PlayStation. There have been rumors circulating on Reddit and ResetEra that Square Enix is working alongside the developer, Team Ninja, to create a new Final Fantasy game exclusive to the PS5.
The gaming news site, Fanbyte, has corroborated the rumor with their sources who have suggested the name of the game to be Final Fantasy Origin.
So the partnership between PlayStation and Square-Enix is clearly very strong on PlayStation 5

Story-wise, there isn’t a lot of information on it, but the rumors suggest that the gameplay would be a lot like a Dark Souls game and that the game will take place in or adjacent to the very first Final Fantasy game. There’s also a rumor that Square Enix is planning to release an alpha demo later on in the summer.
New Elden Ring Trailer
Elden Ring is an upcoming open-world RPG announced back in 2019. It’s being made by Bandai Namco in collaboration with FromSoftware.
Since 2019, there has only been radio silence with a few news stories here and there like how the pandemic dragged down game development. There is, however, a leaked trailer that has been making its rounds.
The trailer was upscaled by YouTuber The Lore Hunter, so it may not be the greatest, but it’s one of the few videos of gameplay that exists.
Following the trailer leak, rumors suggest that the game won’t make an appearance at this year’s E3, in spite of a teaser stating a trailer will drop around that time.
In contrast, a ResetEra user going by the name Omnipotent, who’s had a good track record of teasing games by developer, suggests that something might be coming soon.
New Nintendo Titles
Well-known Nintendo insider, Zippo, published an update on their blog where they speak about a variety of upcoming Switch games. Zippo writes that a new 2D Metroid game, developed by MercurySteam, is on its way; in fact, they go so far as to claim it “two hundred percent exists, and is in fact, done.”
They go on to say that, internally, Nintendo is very happy with the game.
If they do make another 2D Metroid game, they have to bring back the Beam Burst ability from Samus Returns

Zippo later writes that Nintendo is making a new 2D Donkey Kong game in time for the series’ 40th anniversary. The game is being made by an internal studio, EPD Tokyo, and it’s likely that the game will be announced at E3 and released later on in the year.
Again, I’m reiterating the fact that these are all rumors and the insiders who leaked this information provided no hard proof. However, the people who leaked the information have been accurate in the past, so take that as you will.
What are you really hoping to see at E3?
