At Last, “Code Geass” Announces New TV Anime Series and Mobile Game

After we previously reported on the mysterious Code Geass project to be announced, the popular mecha anime franchise has now confirmed, via a live-streamed event, the pending arrivals of a new television anime series and a new smartphone game.

Code GeassLelouch of the Rebellion is the original television anime of the Code Geass franchise. It has two seasons, each consisting of 25 episodes. The first season premiered in 2006 while the second season premiered in 2008, rapidly becoming a fan favorite. The series has inspired various manga and original video anime, including the Code Geass: Akito the Exiled spinoff, which premiered in 2012.

The new television anime series is titled Code Geass: Z of the Recapture ( Z is pronounced Zett) while the smartphone game will be called Code Geass: Genesic Re:CODE. The event teased the new anime with the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection ending.


The smartphone game will feature characters previously shown in the franchise and has an assembled cast of Lelouch, Akito, and others. The mobile game gives players the opportunity to play through various stories of the franchise and even those yet untold.

The Code Geass: Genesic Re:CODE smartphone game is scheduled to be released in spring 2021, having both a simulation and role-playing gameplay. It will also have new animation done at Sunrise Studio.

Yoshimitsu Ohashi (AmnesiaGalaxy AngelSacred Seven) is directing the new Gode Geass: Z of the Recapture (Dakkan no Zetto) anime series while Takahiro Himura will design the characters. Noboru Kimura (Princess Principal: Crown HandlerProblem children are coming from another world, aren’t they?) will write the scripts. Okouchi, Taniguchi, and Sunrise Studios are still credited with the original story for the new TV anime series, Code Geass: Z of the Recapture. 

Among the cast are Shun Horie as Al, a boy with no memories, Yūki Takada as Gigi, a mysterious girl, and Yumiri Hanamori as Archive, librarian of the memory library.
