Asus ROG Qi Throne Review: Overpriced or Awesome?

It’s hard to get excited about a headphone stand, but imagine owning a headphone stand that everyone asks you about and then cringes when you tell them the price: did the ROG Qi Throne come to mind?

First Impressions

When I first took this out of the box (there was no assembly required), my first thought was that it seemed shorter than I imagined.

However, as you can see it holds my HyperX Orbit headphones just fine. (At least the stand isn’t more expensive than the headphones!)

The RGB lighting looks very nice, it isn’t overly flashy. As you can see in the picture above, the glow isn’t too intense and just enough to look ambient.

  • 2 x USB 3.1 Connectors
  • 1 x Headphone Jack
  • Wireless Charging
  • RGB lighting (of course)

Price is anywhere from around $139.99 – $200.00.

Is it Worth the Price?

Does “ROG” stand for “Ridiculously Overprices Gaming” accessories? I think that having a well built, unique headphone stand (prices for custom parts are expensive), mixed with RGB lighting and the wireless charger do justify the higher price.

Corsair, Razer, and some 3rd Party manufacturers make cheaper alternative RGB headphone stands, but the design is a bit more generic (some might like this more actually).

Why not get the cheaper stands?

The Razer headphone stand actually looks nice, but I have heard from other reviewers that it feels cheap and “plasticy,” so I opted for the ROG.

I was also not happy with my Razer headphones at that time, so I wanted to try something else.

For Corsair stand, I just didn’t think it looked as awesome. It probably has the most generic “apple style” look of the three headphone stands above (some people like this).

If you’re buying an RGB headphone stand, you’re probably buying it for the look and to show off: so why not get something that looks unique? That was my thinking when I got this.

Is it worth the price? As far as the unique and custom look of it, I think the price is justified. For utility alone, it might be high for a headphone stand.

I also don’t use my headphones all the time, it’s a nice accessory to have at the office and helps give a high tech appearance (if you’re going for that).

My biggest complaint about this is that it only gives you 2 x USB ports, which you only really net +1 since you have to plug it in to your computer.

I have my mouse and keyboard plugged in through this, my headphones also are wired, so that means I have to plug my headphones in the computer still!

I really wished they put the 2 extra USB ports in the back not on the side like this, or maybe they should have put 2 in the back and 2 in the front?

The headphone stand helps eliminate clutter on your desk by giving you a dedicated place to mount your headphones, but these two side USB cables make it look a bit messy.

Otherwise, I really don’t have any complaints about this. Never used the wireless charging.

Should You Get This?

I do not regret buying this. I really wanted a stand for my headphones and this one does the job while also looking sleek and elegant for a modern office environment.

I would say, if your headphones are cheaper than this stand, you probably shouldn’t get this!

If you want to show off to your friends, co-workers, or clients, then this one will definitely do the job, in my opinion!
