Kodansha has announced that the popular battle fantasy manga, Orient, written and illustrated by Shinobu Ohtaka, will get an anime TV series soon.
For now, we know work is in progress, however, information on the topic is scarce and even the release date is undisclosed.
Manga Publisher & Author Information
Shinobu Ohtaka’s most popular work, Magi, inspired two 25-episode anime series: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic in 2012 and the sequel Magi: The Kingdom of Magic in 2013. Yoshifumi Ōtera drew a spinoff manga titled Magi: Adventure of Sinbad.
Orient has been serialized in the Kodansha Weekly Shonen Magazine since May 2018 and has so far, released 11 tankobon volumes. It was also announced that the manga’s serialization will move to Bessatsu Shonen Magazine after its 113th chapter to be published in Weekly Shonen Magazine‘s sixth issue of 2021.
The serialization in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine will begin in its March 2021 issue to be released on February 9, 2021. Since Bessatsu Shonen Magazine is a monthly magazine, the length of each chapter is expected to be longer.
Can the Teaser Video Enlighten Us?
Kodansha released a 30-second teaser video on their YouTube channel to announce the Orient anime. But the video doesn’t disclose more information nor does it give us a premiere date.
The cast list is not unveiled in the video, nevertheless, you may be able to figure out who the voice actors are based on what you hear.
Kodansha describes the story as thus:
“At age 10, best friends Musashi and Kojiro sat in excited silence as Kojiro’s father spun tales of evil demons who preyed on the innocent, and the warriors who defeated them. Practicing swordplay, the two swear an oath to become the strongest in the world. But as they grow up, Kojiro turns cynical, and Musashi comes to realize that he can’t turn back 150 years of demon rule on his own. He’s being called a prodigy with a pickaxe, and he’s almost ready to settle for a life of labor. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that he still has a responsibility to act…and, soon, the injustices of his world will force his hand…”
The Orient TV anime series is expected to premiere in 2021 and fans have good reason to be excited about this! We will keep you updated as more information comes forward.
